The X4 series is an ongoing project made up of simple graphic shapes from Studio Verbaan. It consists of handcrafted black pieces of wood that are somewhere at the intersection of furniture, objects and sculptures. The design influences of Bauhaus and Memphis are characterized by the modern minimal forms and the high-contrast appearance of X4. The strong but flat silhouette of each piece is sharp around the edges but intentionally ambiguous – so you can decide what it’s for.
Jordi Verbaan handcrafts each piece and selects individual wooden boards that are coordinated in terms of color, grain and structural integrity. Traditional joinery methods offer maximum strength and allow for seasonal wood movements. Once made, each piece is hand finished using a traditional ebonization wood process and hard wax oil to help it stand the test of time.
