In the Burjeel Medical City Hospital in Abu Dhabi you will find this impressive installation by LASVIT: Art Therapy, designed by Wanda Valihrachová. The merging of past and present brought them to life – every 16 meters and 620 kilograms of it. Three motors are responsible for guiding a pendulum that draws stories in 50 m2 of sand below. The art installation has 300 crystal elements and each individual glass element has its own light source so that the entire piece as well as the drawing below emit beautiful lighting.
The location is just as important as the installation itself. The Burjeel Medical City Hospital aims to become the most famous medical facility in the region and is known for its motto “Art of Healing”. The installation of LASVIT is intended to be a form of therapy for the customers of this luxurious hospital, an extension of this promised motto.
Valihrachová designed Art Therapy to match the overall design of the building, which follows the principles of the Middle Eastern design tradition. The functions of the installation are intended to give customers and visitors a feeling of home and calm.
“We worked on the art therapy project for Burjeel Medical City Hospital in Abu Dhabi for a total of two years – from the first draft to the final installation. Looking at this huge gem that is drawing figures in the sand is meant to give visitors a sense of peace and security. The installation has a therapeutic effect, ”says Leon Jakimič, owner and president of LASVIT.
