Concrete Collaborative Shoots for the Half Moon With Natalie Myers

Concrete cooperation and award-winning designer Natalie Myers from Veneerdesigns have teamed up to create a new collection of tiles where we can see stars (and moons). Named the Crescent x strands Collection, the collaborative project combines the encaustic patterned tiles from CC Strands with Meyers’ crescent and crescent designs for a complete collection of six different tiles. The terrazzo finish, the characteristic style of CC, is softened by the curved shapes, which can also be configured with the solid and lined tiles to create a unique design. The collection can also be adapted to different color variations so the possibilities are endless.

Natalie Myers

Myers, known for her “Scandinavian style”, was inspired to create something that was not yet on the tile market.

I was instantly hooked on Concrete Collaberative’s terrazzo tile in response to more than a few design dilemmas and immediately started specifying their Venice tile. So many great combinations of colored chips and background concrete, it was always difficult to choose the “right” one. Kate Balsis casually mentioned that if I ever had an idea for tiles, I should bring it to her. I clung to that a little too passionately. WHAT IF there was a tile with more than one type of terrazzo color? What if we could combine some of their groundbreaking concrete material options into one tile?

Working closely with Kate and Hailey Weller (partners at Concrete Collaborative), during development we landed on a range of geometrically shaped tiles that can be laid in a variety of ways to evoke Art Deco patterns to bring the product to market If there was anything like that, I looked for an element that would make it stand out and fill a void. Bringing in the sickle shape was the aha moment. Not only does it offer a new shape that we haven’t seen in much of the tile design, it also adds a layer of natural wonders and playful symbolism by referencing the phases of the moon.

Half Moon x Strands is available in a box of 13 tiles for $ 175 or visit Concrete-collaborative.com to inquire about custom designs.
