Clever Ep. 145: Sculptor Jonathan Trayte

In this episode of Clever, Amy Devers talks to Yorkshire, UK-based sculptor and furniture designer Jonathan Trayte, who spent early childhood in a motorhome with his family in rural southern South Africa. Back in the UK, his childhood was filled with weekend picnics at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, which sparked his love for sculpture. He went to Canterbury for his BFA and worked in the kitchen on the side, a job that continues to influence his work today. Jonathan graduated from the Royal Academy in Art and quickly found success with his bronze sculptures, but was determined to experiment more. And be sure to experiment – from working with Kit Neale in a British Fashion Council commissioned café to creating a desert road trip-inspired show at Friedman Benda, he’s fusing materials, concepts and memories into extraordinary pieces of art.
