A Modular Cabinet System Inspired by Thai Architecture

Designed for Bangkok Design Week 2021 Design Plant exhibition, design group San design created the Tenement house H modular cabinet system matching the exhibition theme “Inland”. The group consists of three industrial design students at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang: Pimploy Sabchareon, Naphisa Suphanunthorn and Janissa Triyangkulsri. San Design was selected to partner with KUN Decorative, a manufacturer of aluminum furniture under the direction of East Studio, a multidisciplinary studio known for its embroidery. Together they created this project, which is inspired by Bangkok’s shophouses, where different facades are used for different functions.

Similar to the shophouses, the modular cabinet system made of aluminum offers adaptable facades to meet different needs. It can be set to open from the front, back, or both directions and can also be used as a half partition.
