Unemployment benefit extended
These programs include Pandemic Unemployment Assistance for the self-employed, gig and other workers who are not eligible for government assistance; and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation, which pays the long-term unemployed extra weeks of government benefits.
The invoice would offer PUA recipients a maximum of 74 weeks benefits, from 50 PEUC recipients would receive up to 48 weeks instead of 24.
Additional $ 400 per week
Beneficiaries would receive an additional $ 400 per week through August 29.
According to the Ministry of Labor, state unemployment benefits replaced an average of 38% of wages before workers were laid off in the third quarter of last year. An additional $ 400 per week would increase this wage replacement to 86%.
The bill would also provide an additional $ 100 per week for certain self-employed. Employees are eligible if they have net self-employment income of $ 5,000 or more and are not receiving benefits under the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program.
