Located in Mexico’s Valle de Bravo, Casa Rancho Avándaro is a weekend retreat designed by Chain + Siman to blend in with the surrounding natural landscape. The house consists of three buildings, each with a gable roof and stone walls, which create a balance between rustic and modern.
The middle volume acts as a public space with the living and dining room, with wings that house the kitchen and master bedroom, which also includes a studio on the mezzanine. In an annex there are guest rooms that offer visitors a little privacy during their stay.
The main volume is clad with glass on both sides, making the room appear even larger than it is. High wood-paneled ceilings and exposed stone walls give the weekend house another level of cosiness. The interior materials consist of poured concrete, black iron work and various wood surfaces combined with neutral furniture for a relaxed feel.
The kitchen will have its own gable roof with a whole wall of windows to enjoy the view.
